AFFECTIVE OBJECTIVES

Affective objectives are about what students feel and believe.   They relate to the intensity of performance and of physician compassion.  We need to get better at articulating and accomplishing affective objectives.

AFFECTIVE OBJECTIVES

Affective performance is sometimes confusing. To the degree that we care about our graduates showing compassion or valuing certain things--to that degree--we are interested in affective objectives. These types of objectives focus on values, emotions, and choices.

Affective objective also allow us to talk about beliefs and buy-in.  When we use the word "paradigm" in instructional goals, we are in the affective domain.

The table below describes the New Bloom's Taxonomy for affective objectives.  It describes the categories, gives examples, and presents appropriate performance verbs.
